Parole su Pietra

Drawing can mark a moment in a particular way, a connection to a place, the light, even the temperature. At one point I began defining street drawings with the typographic rubbings from Italian walls. The ancient, often hieroglyphic words and symbols recruited again into service in a new application. Most seemed quite willing, even excited to be recast, repurposed. A one point, letterforms unexpectedly completed facial features or provided cryptic purpose to an otherwise aimless effort. The 2022 Parole di Pietra series include rubbings from Rome, Volterra, Radicondoli and Siena Italy.
